Labour Court rejects UCD workers’ pay-parity claim with NUI Galway

The Labour Court recommended on 30 March 2006 that University College Dublin’s pay agreement for general operatives should not be changed, rejecting a union claim for parity with counterparts at NUI Galway. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought the same rate for UCD general operatives as workers at NUI Galway. UCD management said the workers had an established pay relationship with local authorities and health boards outside Dublin. The Court said the 1999 agreement had established that pay relationship and found it had been maintained. It saw no basis to recommend changing the agreement.
