Labour Court recommends lump sum for nurse educators on transfer

The Labour Court recommended a once-off lump sum for Midwifery and Paediatric Nurse Educators when they transfer to third-level institutions under new arrangements. The recommendation, signed on 19 December 2005, sets the payment at the difference between each claimant’s salary immediately before transfer and the salary to which they are assimilated. The Irish Nurses Organisation sought compensation for earnings it said the educators lost through delayed transfers. The Department Of Health & Children said it had made no commitment to transfer them and expected the move from September 2006. The Court said the compensation amount claimed was not warranted, but that the union's arguments had some merit. The recommended payment would settle the claim in full and final terms.
