The Labour Court recommended that A.S. Richardson & Company Ltd increase an unnamed worker’s hourly rate from €8.56 to €9.08 from 26 May 2005. The recommendation was signed on 28 November 2005. The worker was a machine operator paid at the general operative rate. The union sought parity with machine operators and retrospective compensation; the company said the work was not equivalent to machine-operator duties and that the worker had previously declined a machinist position. After examining the work, the Court found its skill level below that of machine operators but above that required of a general operative. The recommended rate was personal to the worker and job, would attract normal wage increases and could not be passed to another worker.
