Labour Court recommends Reidy's Supervalue apply agreement to all staff

The Labour Court recommended that Reidy's Supervalue continue applying the terms of its agreement with Mandate to all employees unless and until it is voluntarily renegotiated. The recommendation was signed on 17 November 2005. The dispute concerned JLC pay rates for new entrants and a 4% bonus after Almar Grocers Ltd bought the Supervalu franchise in Mitchelstown. Mandate said a subsisting agreement covered members' terms and conditions, including the bonus. The company said it applied JLC rates only to under-18s and new entrants, moving experienced adult workers to agreed union rates. The Court said the transfer of the business was not a basis for setting aside a collective agreement and that the existing agreement should be honoured.
