The Labour Court recommended a lump sum equal to five weeks’ pay per year of service, inclusive of statutory terms, for employees made redundant at Doyle Concrete Limited. The recommendation, dated 3 November 2005, also called for negotiations on redundancy selection criteria and reinstatement in the meantime for dismissed employees available for work. The dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU) also concerned lower starting rates and allegations that non-national workers received less favourable pay and conditions. The Court recommended restoring established rates for new entrants and negotiating any possible realignment. It also recommended a full resumption of work when the recommendation was accepted.
