Labour Court recommends €20 weekly rise for Universal Providers worker

By Orla Quinn

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended a €20 weekly pay increase for a Universal Providers worker who took on added driving duties, plus the comparator driver’s rate when covering that driver. The recommendation was signed on 28 October 2005. The Court did not recommend full pay parity. SIPTU sought parity with another Category C licence driver, including €39.03 a week and retrospection. Universal Providers argued that the comparator had greater experience and responsibility. The Court found the worker had taken on additional responsibilities but did not consider full parity justified, having regard to the truck and the worker’s service. It recommended the increase from the date the claim was referred to the Court, and the comparator’s rate for periods substituting for that driver.
