The Labour Court recommended a daily meal allowance of €12.90 for 27 distribution workers at Coca-Cola Bottlers Ireland, effective from 1 January 2004, with annual increases in line with the Consumer Price Index from 1 January 2005. The recommendation was dated 25 November 2004. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought €14.62 a day. The company offered €10.22, saying the allowance was near the industry average and the higher claim would be costly. The Court considered that the allowance had fallen behind in value since 1996.
