The Labour Court recommended that Glanbia PLC and the Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union discuss alternatives to existing redundancy arrangements at the company's Dungarvan shared-services division. The recommendation was signed on 18 November 2004. Glanbia PLC sought changes to how workers would be selected for redundancy, permanent positions and recall to temporary work. The union opposed changes to the existing agreements. The Court recommended retaining voluntary redundancy where possible while allowing the company to retain workers with key skills and experience. It also said permanent-job selection and temporary-staff recall should go through the company's recruitment process and follow protective legislation.
