The Labour Court recommended that Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, and the Health Board prioritise transferring emergency caesarean sections to the general theatre and agree a timeframe to reach 29.2 nurses on the labour ward. The recommendation was dated 6 September 2004. The Irish Nurses Organisation said the maternity workload had increased after units in Dundalk and Monaghan closed, and staffing averaged 26 nurses a week against the agreed 29.2. The Board said safety had to be assessed and the transfer would proceed when staff were available. The Court noted Management's plan to complete the transfer by early 2005 and its commitment to the staffing level.
