Labour Court recommends overtime and clocking terms for National Gallery Of Ireland staff

The Labour Court recommended that the National Gallery Of Ireland ensure fair access to overtime for attendants and keep staff and contracted security within the scope of their roles. It also backed the Gallery’s long-service credit proposal and said information required for its dual clocking system should comply with the Data Protection Acts 1988/2003.

The dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union arose from implementation of a restructuring agreement. The union said it had not agreed to outsourcing overtime and sought incremental credit for attendants on long-service increments. It also raised concerns about the biometric clocking system.

The Court said management should set staffing for special events according to operational needs and ensure reasonable access to, and fair sharing of, overtime among attendants whose attendance was required. It considered the long-service credit proposal fair and reasonable, saying the union’s requested earlier date would treat the affected staff differently from other employees. The recommendation was signed on 3 August 2004.
