The Labour Court recommended that G. E. SUPERABRASIVES pay workers an €8,000 gross lump sum to settle claims over the loss of a share scheme and a goodwill payment, following the company’s sale to Littlejohn LLC. The recommendation was signed on 15 December 2003.
The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union, and Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union brought the claims for workers at the company’s Clonshaugh Industrial Estate site, where about 160 people were employed. The unions sought €16,000 per person for the share scheme and a goodwill payment of €1,000 for each year of service. The company had offered €4,000 gross for the share scheme claim and opposed a goodwill payment. The Court recommended the €8,000 lump sum as settlement of both claims. It also recommended extending the company’s commitment to apply the 2002 redundancy package to any redundancies through 31 December 2005.
