In 2003, the Labour Court recommended that Rte (DTTN) pay €10,000 to a worker after finding she had no alternative but to resign. The recommendation was signed on 13 November 2003 and settled all claims against the company.

The worker was employed as a business development assistant from May 2001 to December 2002. She said her move to Finance without consultation reduced her duties and forced her to resign. Management said the transfer met business needs and involved little change to her duties, title or pay.

The Court found that she was transferred without consultation to work of less value and complied under protest. It said she had tried to raise her grievance, and that the employer classified her at a junior level because of her invoicing abilities without appreciating the impact of losing her other duties. The Court recommended concession of the claim and €10,000 compensation.
