Labour Court recommends redundancy payments or redeployment for three Iralco technicians

By Eimear Byrne

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that three polishing technicians in the Iralco dispute with the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union be offered redundancy payments on the same basis as other redundant staff, or redeployment that would not displace other workers. The recommendation was signed on 4 November 2003. The technicians had been laid off after refusing a new shift pattern, then saying they could work it after the company had reassigned the work. The Court found that work organisation had been restructured so polishing technician duties were no longer required as a separate function, constituting a genuine redundancy.
