The Labour Court recommended that Dublin Port Company honour and implement in full its agreement with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Seamen’s Union of Ireland. The recommendation was dated 29 April 2002. The unions said the company had failed to carry out agreed promotions, offer a river-section seaman full-time employment and compensate two workers for lost overtime or allowances. Dublin Port Company said it needed to cut costs and staffing amid financial pressures. The Court also strongly recommended immediate discussions on management’s strategic plan and joint efforts to discuss cost reductions.
