Labour Court recommends existing Brothers of Charity staff retain longer concession days

By Niamh Kearney

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court recommended that nursing staff at the Brothers of Charity facility at Bawnmore retain two concession days of 11 or 11.5 paid hours, depending on their shift, if they had those terms before management announced a reduction. Other staff receiving the days should get 7.8 hours’ leave for each day. The Irish Nurses Organisation and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought to retain the longer hours for existing staff after management reduced the days to 7.8 hours in 1998. The Court said its recommendation was specific to the case and had no precedent value. It was dated 15 November 2001.
