The Labour Court strongly recommended a mechanism to address disputes between former employees and employers in a recommendation signed on 8 November 2001. The case concerned a worker who retired as chief executive of An Bord Trachtala in 1996 and whose pension was paid by Forfás. The worker said his pension did not reflect a 10% pay increase he received while in the post and no longer tracked Review Body awards. Forfás raised whether the Labour Court had jurisdiction to hear the case. After seeking advice, the Court accepted it could investigate a matter that arose and was referred before retirement, and said a mechanism was needed to address such disputes.
