Labour Court calls for talks on printing workers’ pay increases

By Donal Gilhooly

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended immediate discussions between Irish Printing Federation member companies seeking concessions and the Dublin Printing Group of Unions over revised Programme for Prosperity and Fairness increases. The recommendation was signed on 26 April 2001. The unions sought a 2% increase from 1 April 2001 and a 1% lump sum from 1 April 2002 without concessions in return. Management said payment should be negotiated company by company alongside concessions. The Court noted the unions accepted employers could seek concessions, while expressing concern that unreasonable demands could delay talks. The Court recommended that discussions begin immediately and finish within two weeks, with the Court to reconvene two weeks later to make a definitive recommendation. It did not determine the payment claim in this recommendation.
