Labour Court recommends £125 for each of 20 workers after overtime dispute

In 2001, the Labour Court recommended that Campbell Catering (Uchg) increase its offer to £125 for each of 20 workers affected by the withdrawal of rostered overtime, in full and final settlement of the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim. The recommendation was dated 19 April 2001. The union said alternative hours clashed with existing rosters, were at different locations and could mean unreasonable split shifts. The company said workers could not expect ongoing overtime and that additional work was available elsewhere. The Court said the hours were lost after the company’s temporary patient-menu collection work ended, an event outside its control. It did not recommend the compensation amount sought by the union and instead recommended increasing the company’s existing offer to £125 per affected worker.
