The Labour Court recommended that Trinity College Dublin finalise an agreed recruitment policy for future craft appointments and bring forward by one year an additional increment offered to existing craft workers. The recommendation, dated 14 December 2000, followed a dispute with Craft Group Of Unions over the recruitment of an electrician at the top of the salary scale, which left experienced workers earning less. The unions sought to move current staff below the maximum to the top of the scale. The college said it needed flexibility amid recruitment shortages and that advancing all existing workers would abolish the scale. The Court cited recruitment pressures and the college’s established practice of hiring at varying points on the scale.
