The Labour Court recommended that the National University Of Ireland, Galway recognise six years of a lecturer’s temporary teaching service for pension purposes, after excluding the first two years. The recommendation was signed on 9 November 2000. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union brought the claim for the unnamed lecturer, who had spent eight years as a temporary teaching appointee before becoming a junior lecturer. The Court considered that the initial period could be treated as training because she lacked previous lectureship experience, and recommended accepting the college’s offer to recognise the following six years.
