Labour Court criticises Midland Health Board selection process

By Gráinne Nolan

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court found the Midland Health Board had not acted appropriately when selecting staff for a staff nurse position in the Psychiatry of Old Age unit. It recommended that an unnamed worker be offered first choice of a relevant day hospital nurse vacancy arising by 7 March 2002. The recommendation was signed on 9 November 2000. The worker said two posts went to nurses who were temporary when interviewed, despite an agreement concerning the filling of permanent posts. The Board said it had invited applications and selected the candidates ranked highest on the panel. If no relevant vacancy arose by the stated date, the parties could return to the Court for a recommendation on compensation.
