The Labour Court found that the 1997 Vision 2000 agreement between Smurfit Corrugated Cases and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union covered the introduction of the Genesis computer system. The recommendation was signed on 13 June 2000. The union had sought a lump sum for clerical staff, arguing Genesis was not covered by the agreement. Each worker concerned had received a one-off £2,500 payment under the 1997 agreement. The Court noted management’s acceptance that the agreement did not remove the workers’ future negotiating rights.
