In 2000, the Labour Court recommended that the National Rehabilitation Board and the Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union jointly appoint an evaluator to assess the work of community-based and hospital-based audiological scientists. The recommendation was dated 13 June 2000. The union sought interim application of the hospital-based physicists' pay scale to five community-based audiological scientists. The Board argued that the groups did not do the same work. The Court said it could not determine whether their duties and work content were equal in value, and recommended an agreed evaluation. It said it would issue a definitive recommendation after receiving the findings and considering the parties' observations.
