In 2000, the Labour Court recommended changes to pay, work arrangements and apprenticeship terms for butchers represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union at Tesco Ireland Limited. The recommendation was issued on 26 April 2000. The dispute covered delivery problems, concerns about the future of skilled butchery work and proposals for flexibility. The Court recommended local handling of remaining delivery difficulties and acceptance of the company's flexibility proposals, including a pay increase and retention of the 7.5% skill differential. It also recommended retrospective application of the proposed rates from 21 October 1999 if all parts of the recommendation were accepted, and further discussions on apprenticeship duration.
