In 2000, the Labour Court recommended a settlement of a dispute between Ocean Manpower Ltd (Oml) and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over OML's proposed rationalisation of its deep-sea Dublin Port operations. The recommendation was dated 20 April 2000 and concerned about 73 casual dockers and checker operatives. The Court recommended an increased £38,000 retirement offer, inclusive of statutory entitlements, and an average minimum of 16 hours' work per week, subject to conditions. It also recommended reducing the public-holiday qualification period to 80 hours and accepting the employer's proposed single read. A gross £2,000 once-off payment to serving staff, excluding new recruits, was to be paid in two £1,000 instalments. The Court also recommended honouring the 1992 agreement and implementing proposals to augment it.
