In 2000, the Labour Court recommended that Mid Western Health Board and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union agree a roster providing necessary cover within a standard 39-hour week. It also recommended time and a half for hours worked between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. in the interim. The recommendation was signed on 23 February 2000. The union sought payment for overnight hours or a revised roster for hostel supervisors in County Clare. The Board said the Grade VI rate compensated resident supervisors for the sleep-in requirement. The Court found the roster and sleepover created an unreasonable working-time demand regardless of remuneration.
