Labour Court recommends staffing study at St Luke’s Hospital

The Labour Court recommended a study of porter staffing at St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny after the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought additional porters and changes to duties and coverage. The recommendation was dated 22 October 1999. The South Eastern Health Board said existing staff could cover the work and cited offers to reallocate hours and provide overtime. The Court said the claim could be assessed only after comparing porter work at similar hospitals. It recommended that the parties agree a list of comparable hospitals and an assessor to review staffing at St Luke’s.
