In 1999, the Labour Court recommended that Wen-Plast Limited recognise the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for normal industrial relations purposes and discuss workers’ outstanding issues within the Partnership 2000 agreement and the parties’ minute of understanding. The company had sought a commitment from the union to observe the agreement’s cost-increasing limits before opening negotiations. The Court found that the company’s agreement with staff promised recognition once more than half had joined the union, and that this threshold had been met.
