The Labour Court recommended that Rowear Clothing Manufacturers concede the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for a voluntary redundancy package for about 20 workers placed on indefinite lay-off. The recommendation was signed on 9 August 1999. The package was two weeks’ pay per year of service, inclusive of statutory entitlements, plus payment in lieu of notice. The Court said there appeared to be no realistic prospect of providing continuous employment to all the workers within a reasonable time.
