In 1999, the Labour Court recommended that Norwich Union and Manufacturing, Science, Finance review their performance-related bonus scheme and agree how it would apply in future years. The Court said a company circular dated 22 June 1994 could support the union’s interpretation and placed the main responsibility for the resulting misunderstanding on the company. The Court recommended correcting any past anomalies identified in the review and completing it within two months. The union said the company had changed the agreed bonus structure; Norwich Union said the available bonuses had been paid in full. The recommendation was signed on 30 June 1999.
