Labour Court recommends £250 and £1,000 settlements in Woodfab shift-pay dispute

The Labour Court recommended that Woodfab Timber Limited pay £250 to the worker who had returned to shift work and £1,000 to the other worker, in full settlement of the shift-pay claim. The recommendation was dated 17 December 1998. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the workers had been assured their employment conditions would not change for a year after the takeover. Woodfab Timber Limited said shift allowance was not part of the terms for workers no longer doing shift duties and had been retained temporarily. The Court noted disagreement about the agreement and what the workers had been told, and made its recommendation without prejudice to other issues arising from the 12-month agreement.
