In 1998, the Labour Court recommended a 12-month trial of Union Camp Ireland’s proposed sick pay changes, followed by further discussions with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union. It also recommended that the parties meet to discuss pension improvements. The recommendation was dated 11 December 1998. The unions had sought an unabated pension scheme and 26 weeks’ sick pay for all staff. The Court did not recommend conceding the pension claim, finding the scheme was not substantially out of line with comparable employments. It found the sick pay scheme was not out of line with comparable company schemes.
