Labour Court backs time clocks at Kilkenny Castle from January 1999

In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that workers at Kilkenny Castle use time clocks from 4 January 1999. The dispute between Duchas, Department Of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht & The Islands and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union concerned management's plan to introduce clocks for 10 workers. The Court viewed time clocks as more modern than signing in, but said the dispute had arisen mainly because management had not communicated with employees before introducing the system. It recommended that any future use for purposes beyond recording start and finish times be discussed with all parties.
