In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that Teagasc give a worker an extra increment from 1 August 1997 and half an increment from 1 August 1998, recognising additional responsibilities. It accepted that he could not move to the Research Technician scale without the required qualification. Manufacturing, Science, Finance had argued that the worker's duties had grown and that his responsibilities warranted progression. Teagasc relied on the qualification requirement for research technicians and the risk of setting a precedent. The recommendation was dated 11 September 1998.
