In 1998, the Labour Court recommended against a claim by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union, and Bakers and Food Workers' Amalgamated Union to protect Saturday overtime earnings for about 63 workers at Irish Biscuits Limited. The recommendation was dated 11 March. The unions said workers had been led to expect the payments would be protected under a new annualised-hours agreement. The company argued their new contract earnings matched or exceeded their previous earnings, even though they no longer worked Saturdays. The Court found it would not be justified in recommending that the claim be conceded.
