In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that Ulster Bank Limited include its 20 security porters in an arrangement for calculating holiday pay from the 1997 holiday year. The recommendation was signed on 19 December 1997. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the workers should receive holiday pay calculated using average overtime earnings, under an arrangement it said applied to porters and security guards. Ulster Bank argued that the security porters were a separate bargaining group and did not work regular rostered overtime. The Court recommended including the group in the arrangement for future calculations and applying it to the 1997 holiday year.
