Labour Court rejects Central Bank supervisors’ service-pay claim

By Cathal Brosnan

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for service pay for three Central Bank Of Ireland supervisors not be conceded. The recommendation was dated 21 November 1997. The union said the supervisors were covered by the Printing Industry Registered Employment Agreement and should receive service pay. The Bank said it had never paid service pay to supervisors in its Print, Mint and Maintenance areas, including for more than 20 years before the claim. The Court said service pay had not been raised when rates for operators were renegotiated, and that the arrangement was known to those concerned, including workers promoted from the shop floor whose service pay ended on promotion.
