Labour Court recommends against Penneys storemen's overtime claim after bombscare closure

In 1996, the Labour Court found no grounds to recommend concession of the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's overtime claim for five Penneys storemen after the O'Connell Street store closed because of a bombscare. The recommendation was signed on 20 December. The union said the overtime was part of the workers' normal weekly earnings. Penneys said it paid the storemen until 5.30pm and argued the closure was outside its control.
