In 1996, the Labour Court recommended that the Film Institute Of Ireland pay a worker £1,000 for hurt and distress after finding it had treated her unreasonably in her application and interview for Head of the Irish Film Archive. The recommendation was dated 23 December 1996.
The Court found that she had acted as a department head and that much of the new appointee’s work had previously been hers. It said she was denied an opportunity to compete for the post when the interview ended after she disputed the institute’s description of it as a new position. The Court recommended that the institute define the two roles with her, preserve her existing duties and confirm her position’s permanence in writing. It also recommended advancing her salary to £18,000.
