In 1996, the Labour Court did not recommend concession of the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's claim for a night roster duty allowance for eight Aer Lingus cargo operatives on permanent night shifts. The recommendation was signed on 20 December. The union said cargo operatives performed the same vehicle-charging function as loading staff who received the payment. Aer Lingus said recharging in the cargo department was handled by supervisors.
