In 1996, the Labour Court recommended statutory redundancy payments and five weeks’ pay per year of service, excluding statutory amounts, for catering staff employed by R H Catering at Semperit Ireland Limited. The recommendation was signed on 2 December 1996. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought the redundancy terms paid to Semperit’s direct employees, along with £400 gross and £250 in vouchers and outstanding sick pay. R H Catering said it would pass on money received from Semperit for PCW Phase 3 and PESP Clause 3, but said enhanced redundancy payments were not feasible. The Court recommended implementing PCW Phase 3 from the date due and including PESP Clause 3 in redundancy calculations. It also recommended that the union not pursue the sick-leave claim.
