In 1996, the Labour Court recommended that Waterford Foods follow the parties' agreement on routine tyre maintenance at its Shandon site in Dungarvan. The recommendation, dated 11 November 1996, said the parties should handle each case reasonably and ensure vehicles were roadworthy. Waterford Foods said moving vehicles off site to change tyres created a safety hazard and proposed that faulty tyres be changed at the site. The Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union said the 1995 agreement allowed on-site work for breakdown maintenance, with other maintenance carried out off site.
