In 1996, the Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s request for a job assessment of three Mount Carmel Hospital posts. The union sought to upgrade two Medical Records posts from Grade 2 to Grade 3 and a Creditors post from Grade 3 to Grade 4. The union cited the work and responsibilities of the posts and comparisons with other hospitals. Mount Carmel argued that duties had not substantially changed and that the comparisons were unsuitable. The Court said a satisfactory basis for a job assessment had not been established. The recommendation was signed on 10 September 1996.
