The Labour Court did not recommend compensation for about 900 Cadbury (Ireland) Limited production workers laid off during unofficial industrial action by craft workers. The Court signed its recommendation on 6 June 1996. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union said the production workers were innocent victims of the dispute and that Cadbury could have reduced their losses. The company said the lay-offs were unavoidable and restarting the plant before 8 January was impracticable. The Court concluded it could not recommend compensation as claimed.
