The Labour Court recommended that the pay issue for community employment supervisors sponsored by Dun Laoghaire V.E.C. be addressed centrally. The recommendation, on a claim by Impact, was signed on 25 April 1996. Impact said the supervisors’ responsibilities had grown and their £270 weekly rate had not received increases applied to public-service workers. Dun Laoghaire V.E.C. said it relied on FAS funding and could not meet the claim without additional funds. The Court considered it unfair that arrangements fixing pay for a project’s duration had continued for years, but said the issue had national implications and should be dealt with centrally rather than locally.
