The Labour Court recommended introducing Tayto Limited’s sick pay scheme for general operatives, including no payment for the first three days of illness. It recommended reviewing that rule after a significant reduction in sickness absence or within at least two years. The recommendation was signed on 4 October 1995. The Amalgamated Transport And General Workers Union opposed the unpaid period, while Tayto Limited said it was important to controlling absenteeism. The Court also said the scheme could not apply to employees who did not provide the information required to implement it.
