In 1995, the Labour Court recommended that a temporary depotperson at Iarnrod Eireann accept an extension of his employment to the end of September. The recommendation was signed on 10 May 1995. The National Bus and Rail Union referred the appointment dispute to the Court. The union said the worker had received no usual warnings and was unaware of concerns about his performance. Iarnrod Eireann said his performance was average, cited two serious instances of neglect and said it had given him opportunities to improve. The Court also recommended that the company regularly update the worker and his union on his progress if requested, and said he might consider working the extended period at another location.
