In 1995, the Labour Court recommended severance terms of two weeks' pay per year of service, inclusive of statutory entitlements, for four workers made redundant by the Dublin Committee For Travelling People. The recommendation was signed on 10 February 1995. The redundancies followed the end of European Horizon funding and a reduction in local-authority support. The Committee had offered statutory terms, while Irish Municipal Public And Civil Trade Unions sought an enhancement, saying workers had forgone wage increases and faced major reductions in travel expenses to help continue the programme. The Court said the funding and local-authority decisions should have taken account of their consequences for employees, while acknowledging the Committee's financial restrictions. It recommended the enhanced severance terms.
