In 1994, the Labour Court recommended changes to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s maintenance-base relocation proposal, including a one-off £2,000 payment for travel expenses. The recommendation was signed on 16 December 1994. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union was the other party to the dispute. The Court recommended that employees accept the fleet-maintenance rationalisation proposal, with attendance at the Dublin base as required and severance of 3.50 weeks’ pay per service year plus statutory entitlement. It also recommended a review in September 1995. The Court said the main source of disagreement, the requirement for a family to move to Dublin, had been removed during the hearing.
