The Labour Court recommended that the Department Of Education offer permanency and the maximum point of the pay scale to a temporary clerk-typist who had worked full-time at St. Enda's Community School in Galvone, Limerick, since 1980. The recommendation was signed on 13 October 1994.
The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the worker had served continuously for 14 years and that the school needed the post. The Department argued that its staffing allocation did not allow a second full-time secretarial position. The Court cited her long service and made its recommendation conditional on her agreeing to redeployment to other local schools if workload or student numbers fell.
